Swami Vivekananda Biography: Swami Vivekananda was a prominent Indian Hindu monk, philosopher, and spiritual leader who played a key role in introducing Indian philosophies of Vedanta and Yoga to the Western world. He was born on 12 January 1863, in Calcutta (now Kolkata), India, and his original name was Narendranath Datta.
