Lal Bahadur Shastri Biography: Lal Bahadur Shastri (2 October 1904 – 11 January 1966) was an Indian political leader who served as the second Prime Minister of India. He played a crucial role in the country’s struggle for independence and later in its governance.

लाल बहादुर शास्त्री (2 अक्टूबर 1904 – 11 जनवरी 1966) एक भारतीय राजनीतिक नेता थे जिन्होंने भारत के दूसरे प्रधान मंत्री के रूप में कार्य किया। उन्होंने देश की आज़ादी की लड़ाई और बाद में इसके शासन में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई।

Early Life

Lal Bahadur Shastri was born in Mughalsarai, United Provinces (now in Uttar Pradesh), British India, in a family of modest means.

लाल बहादुर शास्त्री का जन्म मुगलसराय, संयुक्त प्रांत (अब उत्तर प्रदेश), ब्रिटिश भारत में एक मामूली साधन वाले परिवार में हुआ था।

He lost his father when he was only a young boy, and his mother, Ramdulari Devi, took on the responsibility of raising him and his siblings.

जब वह केवल एक छोटा लड़का था तब उसने अपने पिता को खो दिया और उसकी माँ रामदुलारी देवी ने उसके और उसके भाई-बहनों के पालन-पोषण की ज़िम्मेदारी ली।

Political Activism

Shastri joined the freedom struggle during his college days and became associated with the non-cooperation movement led by Mahatma Gandhi in the 1920s.

Post-Independence Contributions

After India gained independence in 1947, Shastri held various ministerial positions, including Minister of Police and Transport in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

He was appointed as the Minister of Railways in the first cabinet of independent India under Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

Prime Minister ship

Lal Bahadur Shastri became the Prime Minister of India on June 9, 1964, succeeding Jawaharlal Nehru after his death.

लाल बहादुर शास्त्री 9 जून, 1964 को जवाहरलाल नेहरू की मृत्यु के बाद उनके स्थान पर भारत के प्रधान मंत्री बने।

One of the significant challenges he faced during his tenure was the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965. The conflict ended with the signing of the Tashkent Agreement in January 1966, which sought to restore economic and diplomatic relations between India and Pakistan.

Lal Bahadur Shastri Death

Unfortunately, Lal Bahadur Shastri’s tenure as Prime Minister was cut short by his untimely death on January 11, 1966, in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, shortly after signing the Tashkent Agreement.

दुर्भाग्य से, ताशकंद समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर करने के तुरंत बाद 11 जनवरी, 1966 को ताशकंद, उज़्बेकिस्तान में उनकी असामयिक मृत्यु के कारण प्रधान मंत्री के रूप में लाल बहादुर शास्त्री का कार्यकाल छोटा हो गया।

Lal Bahadur Shastri is remembered as a leader of the masses and a symbol of humility and integrity in Indian politics. The slogan “Jai Jawan Jai Kisan” (Hail the Soldier, Hail the Farmer) coined by him reflects his commitment to both national defense and agricultural development.

लाल बहादुर शास्त्री को भारतीय राजनीति में जन नेता और विनम्रता तथा सत्यनिष्ठा के प्रतीक के रूप में याद किया जाता है। उनके द्वारा दिया गया नारा “जय जवान जय किसान” राष्ट्रीय रक्षा और कृषि विकास दोनों के प्रति उनकी प्रतिबद्धता को दर्शाता है।
