In its invitation to all citizens, amateur athletes and casual fans to play fairly, National Sports Day offers life lessons that can be learned through sports. It helps us to remember that anyone is capable of being a hero and it creates discipline, strength, and teamwork both on and off the field.
National Sports Day 2025 : Theme
National Sports Day 2025 has the theme of Sport to Promote Peaceful and Inclusive Societies. This theme brings out the way sports can be used to overcome social divisions, team building and bring people together despite their differences.
Sport is capable of assisting communities to reach peace, inclusivity, and mutual understanding, enhancing cooperation and solidarity.
The Fit India Mission will organise a three-day countrywide campaign August 29-31, involving activities such as Ek Ghanta -One Hour on the Playground. Everyone should spend at least one hour of the day doing some physical activity.
History Of Sports Day
National Sports Day is dedicated to Major Dhyan‛ who was the first recipient of the award. He also made it to the nickname of the Hockey Wizard, the Magician due to his phenomenal prowess on the ground. The day is celebrated on his birthday, which is August 29.. He led India to 3 field hockey victories at the Olympics in 1928, 1932 and 1936.

History of Lord Ganesh Birth
The story of how Ganesha was born is both strong and emotional. According to Hindu stories, Goddess Parvati made Ganesha out of turmeric paste and told him to watch over her while she took a bath. When Lord Shiva came back and was not allowed to enter, a fight happened.
Sadly, Shiva cut off Ganesha’s head, but when he saw how sad Parvati was, he brought Ganesha back to life using an elephant’s head.
